(1) Special Paper Session: Advanced Fault Diagnosis Techniques for Gears and Bearings

 

Gears and bearings as the key components of many machines and transmission systems may experience various types of faults, such as breakage, crack, pitting, and wear. If not being properly monitored and treated, faults can propagate and lead to machinery performance degradation, malfunction, or even severe component/system failure. It is significant to reliably detect the faults and evaluate their severity to prevent unexpected failures. Advances in these areas will support ensuring equipment and production reliability, safety, quality and productivity. The aim of this special paper session on “Advanced Fault Diagnosis Techniques for Gears and Bearings” is to present new methods and tools for gears and bearings’ condition monitoring and fault diagnostics. This special session is co-organized by Dr. Xihui Liang from University of Manitoba, Canada and Prof. Ming J. Zuo from University of Alberta, Canada.

(2) Special Paper Session: Development and Management of Secondary Batteries and Fuel Cells

As a clean alternative to the traditional vehicle, the electric vehicle and hybrid electric vehicle are experiencing quick market share growth during these years. The secondary batteries and fuel cells as the main power sources need to have high level of reliability, long lifespan, and high energy density to ensure the vehicles operate soundly and stably. Although they have already offered many advantages and benefits, the secondary battery and fuel cell systems have not yet been fully developed to meet the performance needs from customers. Significant advancements are critically needed in development and management of battery systems to achieve much broader market penetration. The aim of this special issue on “Development and Management of Secondary Batteries and Fuel Cells” is to offer a platform to attain synergistic exchanges of ideas from the battery health, thermal, and safety management fields. This special session is co-organized by Prof. Yunxia Chen from Beihang University, China and Mr. Rui Zhao from Carleton University, Canada.
